The Rules of Survival

Every apocalypse needs a rulebook. This one is built for weather — and it adapts. When the sky turns, the right rule finds you on the forecast page.

1. #1 Know the signs Check the forecast before you commit to the day. The outbreak and the storm both announce themselves first.
2. #2 Be prepared Your kit is packed before the sirens, not after. An unprepared survivor is a short story.
3. #3 Cardio The weather turns and the vehicle dies. Be able to outrun both.
4. #4 Limber up Cold muscles cramp. A cramp at the wrong moment is a death sentence.
5. #5 Silence is golden After dark, sound carries — and so does the smell of the living.
6. #6 Never trust dark water If you can't see the bottom, assume hands and mouths. Twelve inches of flood moves a car.
7. #7 Travel light The essentials move faster than the mementos. Leave the keepsakes for the horde.
8. #8 Check the back seat And the basement, and the attic. Trouble climbs into the places you feel safest.
9. #9 Know your exits A shelter you can't leave quickly is a tomb with better furniture. Keep two ways out.
10. #10 Blunt beats fancy A low-maintenance tool never jams and never runs out of ammo. Skip the cool factor.
11. #11 Enjoy the little things A clear sky is a gift. Take the walk. Morale is a survival stat.
12. #12 The buddy system Two watch better than one. Count your group at dusk and again at dawn.
13. #13 Beware the confident stranger Hard weather brings out the worst in the many. Be courteous, stay cautious.
14. #14 Don't be a hero Heroes die young and get forgotten. Survive first; find the story later.
15. #15 Know your enemy Study the conditions when it is safe to. The sky, like the horde, has patterns.
16. #16 Stay flexible These rules adapt. The weather always has a new idea, and so should you.
