Our Commitment

Weather Zombie is committed to making the site usable by as many people as possible, including people using screen readers, keyboard-only navigation or magnification. This page describes what we have actually implemented and, just as importantly, what we know is still missing.

Accessibility Features

Visual

• Contrast: Body text and links meet the WCAG 2.1 AA contrast minimum (4.5:1) against the site background.
• Scalable text: The site does not block pinch-zoom or browser zoom; text can be enlarged to at least 200%.
• Alt text: Weather icons carry alternative text describing the actual forecast condition, not decorative wording.

Keyboard and Screen Reader

• Focus indicators: A visible outline marks the focused link, button and form field for keyboard users.
• Menus without a mouse: The navigation drop-downs open on keyboard focus as well as hover, and require no JavaScript.
• Page structure: Each page has one <h1> naming that page, plus <nav> and <main> landmarks for skipping between regions.

Known Limitations

We would rather list these than imply the site is more accessible than it is. As of the date above:

• The interactive radar, outbreak map and 3D globe are visual by nature and have no full text equivalent yet. The forecast data behind them is available as text on the forecast pages.
• The animated solar system view is decorative; planet positions are not exposed to screen readers.
• Some older decorative images carry brief or generic alternative text.
• Weather Zombie has not been through a formal third-party WCAG 2.1 AA audit, and we do not claim full conformance. The measures above were verified in-house.
• Our mobile app is still in pre-release testing. We are not yet making accessibility claims for it.

Technical Specifications

Weather Zombie is built with standard HTML landmarks and semantics, so it is intended to work with assistive technology including screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack), keyboard-only navigation and voice control. We have not completed formal testing against each of these — if something does not work for you, please tell us using the address above and we will treat it as a bug.
